The fashion industry has always been fascinated by the spell of temporarily juxtaposing one's name with that of renowned contemporary artists, as was the case from the 1930s through the 1970s. With the arrival of streetwear, brands have preferred to collaborate with other clothing brands, luxury brands, fast food or cult object brands.

Givenchy x Undercover, Nike x Nigo, Ganni x New Balance: 2024 is shaping up to be a year full of interesting collaborations highly anticipated by insiders and fashion enthusiasts.

The first collaboration between the fashion world and art dates to the 1930s, which occurred between Elsa Schiaparelli – the one who invented Shocking Pink and fashion shows as we know them today – and Salvador Dalì, the Master of Surrealism.

Since then, the fashion industry has been fascinated by the spell of temporarily juxtaposing its name with that of renowned contemporary artists, after the one between Schiaparelli and Dalì would come those between Chanel and Picasso, Yves Saint Laurent and Piet Mondrian, to name a few. Collaborations, Collabs or Co-Labs, are now common currency in the fashion world; although they may sometimes seem obvious or repetitive, some still know how to arouse curiosity and interest among the public of insiders and fashion enthusiasts, now accustomed to almost a century of co-branding. Undoubtedly, some of these collaborations have entered costume history, and without necessarily turning to the illustrious artists of the 20th century, just think of the recent Louis Vuitton x Nike Sneakers.

2024 promises to be a fascinating year for fashion collaborations. In particular, the ones we present in this article are eagerly awaited by all.

Givenchy x Undercover.

Givenchy x Undercover collab Spring 2024 Pluriverse

On Aug. 21, a teaser of a T-shirt made together with Jun Takahashi, designer and founder of Undercover, for what will be a capsule collection to be released on Aug. 26, which will be sold exclusively in the Lvmh label’s Ginza boutique, appeared on the Instagram profile of the U.S. designer now creative director of the Givenchy.

It’s a collaboration that few would have imagined: two names of resonance and opposite styles come together, promising to result in one of the most coveted and talked-about capsule collections of 2024. On the one hand, the brilliant Japanese streetwear pioneer, Jun Takahashi, and on the other, the quintessential Parisian fashion house, Givenchy.

What does this union hold in store for us? It is hard to imagine Undercover’s bold aesthetic intertwined with Givenchy’s refined elegance. However, it is not unthinkable that the style of the fashion house’s new creative director, Matthew Williams, might surprisingly align with the Japanese designer’s sensibility.

Nike x Nigo

The union between the talented Japanese designer and the American giant is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated moments of 2024. This partnership is the result of an intricate journey that has lasted over two decades, even including a legal dispute between the two parties. All we have to do is wait until Spring 2024 to get a glimpse of the creative outcome of this long challenge between Nigo and Nike.

Feng Chen Wang x Nike

In the Spring of 2024, we will see the blossoming of the first collection resulting from the collaboration between London-based Chinese designer Feng Chen Wang and Nike. This extraordinary collection embraces dresses constructed with outerwear and ruffles, light evening dresses that sway like wings, and even a rare, limited edition of the iconic Air Force 1.

However, these creations will not find their way into stores; rather, they will flaunt their innovation through cutting-edge exhibition projects designed to fascinate and intrigue. Christened “Memories. Imprinted,” the collection draws on the designer’s childhood memories, atmospheres experienced with her grandmother and the enchanting natural landscape of Fujian. And there is no shortage of unmistakable Swoosh icon that has found its place in this context.

 Ganni x New Balance

Danish brand Ganni recently closed Copenhagen Fashion Week with a show for spring-summer 2024 that attracted a lot of interest. The runway was dominated by earthy tones, natural fabrics such as denim and leather, as well as essential silhouettes typical of the Danish brand. During this presentation, the upcoming collaboration with New Balance, scheduled for spring, was also unveiled.

Last year saw the birth of the first joint collection between Ganni and New Balance, which was such a success that the two brands decided to join forces again. The 2022 collection, titled “Hello, World!”, introduced a pair of 1960R sneakers designed by Ganni in shades of white “Egret” and “Blazing Yellow” to the scene. And now, in 2024, we can expect more fashion gems to spring from this fascinating collaboration.
