Brief history of the long-term collaboration between adidas and Pharrell.

In 2014 adidas announced to the world its long-term collaboration with Pharrell Williams sparking a lot of buzz and general curiosity. Expectations were not disappointed and with the arrival of the adidas Stan Smith “Solid Pack” nothing has been the same as before.

The multifaceted artist, former founder of the “Billionaires Boys Club” and BAPE collaborator along with Nigo, has turned the German brand’s design upside down with his positive and ultra-colorful appeal, influencing the world of streetwear as we know it today. The artist’s signature stan smith includes three primary color interactions, in adidas blue, red and black.

The following year after the release of the first drop, the two made the “Superstar Supercolor”-a true revolution. The classic Superstar silhouette receives no less than 50 vibrant colors; it is in fact the first all-color sneaker, from laces to sole.

In 2016, Pharrell‘s positive philosophy is perfectly explicated with the adidas NMD “Human Race”: the collection consists of several colorways and features “Human Race” printed on the upper.

After the Stan Smith, Pharrell and adidas present the “Tennis Hu”: a new silhouette born from the classic tennis shoe, but with an urban twist and two bold colorways.

The model will be re-released almost every year, in different colorways. In 2021, the exclusive NMD in collaboration with Billionaires Boys Club, Pharrell‘s streetwear brand, is released to celebrate the debut anniversary of the N.E.R.D. album.

Pharrell’s multifaceted and versatile talent is the main reason for his ability to stay on top in every field he ventures into; it is no surprise to find out that his multimedia collective “i am OTHER” has been an example of inclusivity is solidarity in the world of fashion and music, before any other movement or initiative, and that he introduced the world to the famous Hindu festival of colors, through the 2018 adidas “Holi” Pack, and then shifted his focus from India to Asia with the “China Exclusive” pack, moving on to East Africa with the “SOLARHU” Pack.

What has made Pharrell‘s work with adidas so iconic in all his projects is his attention to detail, focus on a theme, and respect for the source material; Pharrell can be said to be an advocate for everything he preaches: mutual respect, equality and love for all cultures, positivity, sustainability, and brotherhood.
